States we're targeting for Knock Knock

Hey everyone! Hope the tour has started out great. :) Sounds like the film is being very well-received... good job!

I just wanted to write a quick post about Knock Knock... I know Lisa sent you an email about it last week, and I just wanted to follow up with a few more specifics. Registration closes this Friday, and there are a few (okay, more than a few) states that we're still targeting and hoping to get more people signed up from. This is all focused around getting co-sponsors for the N. Uganda bill that's just about to be introduced. It's basically going to be an "all hands on deck" kind of thing to get that sucker out of Congress...So if you find yourself lost in the roadie van driving through the Kansas plains, tell people about Knock Knock when you ask for directions. :)

Okay - here's the list (and I'm including a quick line about why that state is important):

• Delaware (Senator Kaufman just appointed to Africa Subcommittee)
• Georgia (Huge for us - Senator Isakson just named ranking member -aka: most influential Republican- on the Senate Africa Subcommittee)
• Indiana (another big one - Senator Lugar is the most important Republican in the entire Senate when it comes to Foreign Policy - he is the ranking member on the Foreign Relations committee)
• Iowa (Senator Harkin is on the appropriations subcommittee that will decide whether or not to fund reconstruction efforts)
• Kansas (I'm sure you've seen the podcast - Brooooowwnback! He's our go to Republican on this issue - and we're going to need big Republican co-sponsors to get other Republicans to vote for the bill)
• Louisiana (Sen. Landreiu is on both the intelligence and appropriations committees)
• Massachusetts (Senator Kerry replaced Sen. Biden as the chair of the foreign relations committee - if we can get him to make this bill a priority, it would be huge)
• New Hampshire (Sen. Shaheen was just named as a new member on the Africa subcommittee - we want to get her to pay attention to this!)
• New Jersey (Both Senators Lautenberg and Menendez have As on our Congressional Scorecards - and are on influential Senate Committess -we'll need their help on this)
• Pennsylvania (Sen. Specter is an important, big-name Republican that we want to get behind the bill - he's been very responsive to constituent requests in the past)
• S. Carolina (Sen. Demint is on the Africa Subcommittee)
• Tennessee (Sen. Corker is on the Africa subcommittee)
• Virginia (Sen. Webb is on the Africa subcommittee)
• Wisconsin (just to tell Sen. Feingold thank you). :)
